I'm scared of ADHD stimulant addiction

I have an addictive personality so I may be able to help.

  1. With the tolerance issue I’m going to go against the grain of what you usually see here and say it definitely exists for me. I take breaks on weekends or when I have a slow day in work. I also take one month breaks occasionally when appropriate and I’ve been able to stay at a low dose.

  2. This doesn’t apply to most people but personally I have had the urge to take more. It usually happens if your dose is too low and you need to remain productive. I find with amphetamine based drugs it happens at around the 3-4 hour point. The fact you’re aware of this part of your nature is great, you will be able to identify those thoughts. I just fought them off and never take more, speaking to my doctor when I feel they aren’t working well enough. If you find these thoughts to be really strong, you can get a time locked kitchen box to keep your medication in, or get someone else to give it to you.

Despite all this, medication has changed my life in the best way. I can finally do the things I’ve always known I was capable of, and act like a normal person. People with ADHD deserve to see their full potential, and medication helps with that.

If you remain self aware and monitor your behaviours, you will be fine.
