Extruder skipping on filament?

Ender 3 Max?

Occassional clicking usually comes down to either extruder tension or material flow (especially with PLA).

When you look at the extruder, the arm is countered with a spring, that goes over a unspread rivet nut and is held in place with a screw (M4 button head, coming from the extrusion side). If the rivet nut is not flat against the extruder body, turn that screw out until it is.

The issue on the creality extuder is, that with too much pretension, the filament doesnt run straight into the bowden tube and gets stuck.

Another candidat is the idlear bearing on the extruder. There is a spring washer either above it or below it. It belongs above it (so screw head -> spring washer -> idler bearing -> extruder body), otherwise the filament wont be in line with the holes.

Material flow with PLA is more finnicky. You'll have to make a few calibration prints and correct your e-steps for that, so check the mentioned potential issues with the extruder first.
