Even Artists with Works That Merely Look Like AI Art are Getting Banned from Subreddits

This is a poor analogy. I'll explain why, because I know a lot of people have a poor understanding of the artistic process.

So let's look at Greg Rutkowski as an example, as he's one of the artists most affected by AI. If I type "in the style of Greg Rutkowski" into an AI generator, I will be able to produce work that looks as if Rutkowski made it within seconds. This not only jeopardizes Rutkowski's future as an artist, but it also jeopardizes his reputation if people attempt to pass off AI art work as made by Rutkowski.

Meanwhile, let say I, a person, try to mimic Rutkowski's style. If I have no experience as an artist, this will probably take me about 20 years at least, and by that point, it's unlikely after that journey my style will look anything like Rutkowski's at all. If I'm an experienced painter, it will likely take me several months to years of study to get anywhere close, and even if I utilize the same technique as Rutkowski, it's unlikely that I will be able to consistently create work that looks identical to Rutkowski's. This is because the human brain is not a machine; even if I were to attempt to create my own artwork 100 times, every iteration would look different.

Further, I am not putting Rutkowski's career in danger because, as an artist, I'm not going to attempt to pass off my works as a Rutkowski original; I would attempt to make a name for myself in the art world if I've developed that degree of skill.

If you're still not sure what the difference is after this or why it's an ethical problem I'm not really sure there's anything anyone can say to make you empathize with people whose livelihoods have a stake in this.
