BioWare Founder on PS4/Xbox One Upgrades: It'd Be a "Gigantic Pain in the Ass"

he basis of console still exists. It's an all in one box that you know will work with all games released for it. Ease of use, somewhat portability, press a button, sit and play. Don't have to worry about parts being compatible. Little to no maintenance required.

This is literally why you won't get a console with exchangeable parts.

I have a PC, not exactly the best (i5 3450, 650Ti), and it annoys me when I load up the system and the game requires an update, gpu needs to update, security, OS etc. If PC could get that all streamlined and downloaded and installed whilst the system is asleep (like the Rest Mode of PS4), I'd game more on it. This might be less annoying if I had decent internet so I don't have to wait, but I can't change that.

Wait a minute. Since when do modern console games not need an update? Last I checked, people buying consoles on christmas last year were told to take them out to update them first.

Secondly. I haven't updated my GPU in a long time, They don't require constant updates. However, a console card would. Each developer would need to include updates for newer hardware. How could they know what the specs are going to be ahead of time?

Heck, You'd better be ready for games to have lengthy updates for textures and other settings, because they won't out of the box know what the new specs for the console will be, so they can't pre-plan. They will have to update the game. Which won't be stored on the CD either. It'll have to be on an internal or external drive, which will hinder it even more.

DOn't even get me updated on 'security and OS, etc" This is ignorant rhetoric of some one who is trying to justify consoles of this nature.

In all honesty. It appears you're making up reasons and excuses for why upgrade-able consoles would be better. In reality, they are a can of worms that will likely spell the end of consoles if made. No developer is going to want to update their game three times a year for each new hardware upgrade. Games will be left behind. Or not even brought to consoles to begin with.
