Any of you parents have advice for those of us shopping for our baby and nursery? What items can we live without?

I have a different kind of recommendation because I cringe at some nurseries I see here. * When setting up your nursery, do not hang pictures above crib and above changing table. Above the crib it’s a falling hazard. Above changing table is a great way to get an older baby/toddler not to cooperate with diaper changes.

  • Do not put anything in the nursery that can easily be broken.

  • Make sure your changing table / dresser has a space for wipes and creams.

  • See-through white curtains are nice, sure, but you know what else is nice? SLEEP! Most babies sleep best in PITCH BLACK ROOMS! Get those black out curtains and do not look back! And do not put the crib under a window.

  • Get a comfortable glider or rocker. You will probably be nap trapped for many hours. The worst place to be nap trapped is on an uncomfortable all-wooden rocking chair.

  • make sure the nursery doesn’t have things in it with sharp corners. And no metal! Head injuries aren’t fun

  • have a good sized night stand next to the glider/rocking chair. You will need to put bottles, pump, snacks, etc there!
